Brussels’ Colours —
After a challenging few weeks for our capital at the end of 2015, the City of Brussels wanted to lighten the mood, uniting local residents and Belgians to emphasize that Brussels is a lively, friendly, open, creative and diverse city. It’s a city that we are all proud of.
For over eight hours on Saturday 30 January, the city centre celebrated peace and tolerance. This extraordinary free event was launched at Brussels Stock Exchange. Over 7,000 people came to be part of this unforgettable experience. From 4.30 pm to midnight, visitors were able to enjoy street entertainment and local culinary specialties. But more importantly, they listened to Belgian and international artists sing or express their attachment to Brussels. A talk show was recorded simultaneously in the Stock Exchange, hosting guests from different backgrounds. Brussels’ Colours was given exceptional media coverage: two hours of live, primetime bilingual programmes on RTBF La Deux, TV Brussel and BX1, eight repeats on TV5 around the world, RTLTVi, VRT, VTM, VivaBruxelles, La Première, Bel-RTL, Nostalgie, NRJ, FM Brussel, MNM and Qmusic, and significant coverage on Joe FM and Radio 2 with reports, news bulletins, interviews, various items, etc. What’s more, this incredible night set Twitter alight, making #BXLcolours the second most tweeted hashtag on Saturday 30 January.
