Inauguration of place Bockstael
On Sunday 27 June 2021, the Place Emile Bockstael and its surroundings gained a new look thanks to the redevelopment work carried out by the Bockstael sustainable district contract.
After a year of work and a long participatory process with the inhabitants and actors of the neighbourhood, a greener, more convivial and safer space was inaugurated in the presence of many elected representatives of the City of Brussels, the Brussels-Capital Region and the Federal Government. Residents discovered a host of participatory, fun, sporting and musical activities along with their families and neighbours.

Bridge
In 2021, Beliris built two new pedestrian bridges over the canal, at the Comte de Flandre metro station and opposite the MIMA. They link Molenbeek to the City of Brussels.
Cohesion and connection are indeed the keywords of these works, which were inaugurated with fanfare and colour at the beginning of September. During a festive and family-friendly afternoon, the public enjoyed the many free activities, accessible to all, which were organised along the kilometre which links the two footbridges on either side of the canal.

Thanks to the generosity of this legendary group, this special evening allowed 6000 spectators to enjoy a breath of fresh air in a difficult period and to enjoy an unforgettable experience.

On 30 March 2021, Brussels, Laeken, Neder-Over-Heembeek and Haren celebrated the 100th anniversary of their merger to form the City of Brussels as we know it today, with the Willebroeck canal as a rallying point.
This anniversary was celebrated for several months with a great deal of culture, folklore and solidarity thanks to numerous events highlighting the richness of the four municipalities.
Inhabitants, associations, cultural centres and other local actors took part in the festivities which centred on a unifying project which summed up the nature of our City: a multi-faceted capital, a city of sharing, and a global village.

During the summer of 2021, the City of Brussels joined forces with Tipik (RTBF) to offer free outdoor fitness sessions for everyone. The aim was to enable the people of Brussels to take up a sporting activity in a friendly atmosphere while enjoying our magnificent city.
The four events took place in symbolic locations in the capital, where several 30-minute sessions were offered outdoors by the Akhmedov brothers, RTBF’s sports coaches.
There was something for everyone! The two instructors ensured that the training was accessible to everyone. The sessions were broadcast by Tipik during the summer.

Brussels Environment had organized a similar event since 2000, which quickly became unmissable for both local residents and environmental organizations. In 2016, it was renamed the “Festival of the Environment”. It featured two highlights: BEL Movie Day on 3 June, screening films on the environment and good food and, on Sunday 5 June 2016, a market providing information on biodiversity, waste treatment, renewable energy… all in a fun setting filled with activities, music, dance, circus, street arts, workshops…
The various formats encouraged visitors to join our common cause: supporting environmental protection without scaremongering.
